Uzma Z. Rizvi is Associate Professor of Anthropology and Urban Studies at Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, NY, and Visiting Researcher in the Department of International Studies at the American University of Sharjah, UAE. 

Rizvi’s research interests include decolonizing archaeology, ancient urbanism, critical heritage studies, new materialism, and the postcolonial critique. Her essays can be found in E-Flux, The New Inquiry, LEAP, and Anthrodendum(formerly Savage Minds) among others. In 2018, Rizvi was on the curatorial team as the Head of the Department of Mapping Margins for the Fikra Graphic Design Biennial 01: Ministry of Graphic Design, Sharjah, UAE. Additionally, in 2018 Rizvi served on the selection committee of the Jane Lombard (formerly Vera List Center) Prize for Art and Social Justice (NYC), the Forum Fellows (Art Dubai), the Alserkal Residency (Dubai), and is currently on the advisory board of the New York Academy of Sciences (Anthropology section). 

Rizvi received her doctorate from the Department of Anthropology, University of Pennsylvania in 2007.
